Welcome everyone to this live chat session with Fishidy, glad you can join us! Fishidy President, Brian Jensen, and Lead Engineer, Drew Gierach, are with us tonight to discuss the latest features in development and what we're planning for 2014.
The format of this chat is an open forum discussion with questions being answered by both Brian and Drew. We're here tonight to learn what you, our members, think about Fishidy and what ideas you have to make our platform the ultimate online resources for all anglers!
With that, we'll do our best to address and discuss as many questions as possible in the allotted time. Please fire away!
Just to kick things off, did you know that Fishidy recently released a log filtering feature? Whether you're looking at your personal feed of activity, or you're on one of our waterway pages, you now have the ability to filter by Catches, Photos, and Spots.
Hi Skip, and welcome everyone. I assume you are talking about your HDS for Lowrance. Fishidy has already worked on the import process and I'm expecting the feature to be complete for 2014.
I should also add that we are working on an export to GPSX (format for most commercial GPS units) from Fishidy
Hey Lauren! This is definitely on our radar. We're hoping to have this rolled out for both the android and iOS apps by the end of the year.
Hi Henry, so we are actually working on a really sweet feature that takes upcoming weather and combines it with our waterway features to predict the best fishing techniques and spots.
That is our single biggest request! We are trying hard to add features as quickly as possible, especially waterway pages and waterway info. The mapping of the waterways is a little trickier and actually takes a lot of resources and time but we know for Fishidy to be the most comprehensive resource, then we need to add more maps.
Shaefer, are you referring to showing speed on the mobile app while on the water? As for making reefs different colors we've had a lot of discussions about adding the ability for users to customize their maps. Think of it as an expansion to the spots now but with graphing tools.
I also want to add that we are adding the aerial maps as the base map in the apps instead of the road map
Great suggestion Sammy. We are working closely to NOAA to get their buoys added to our maps. The best part is we will get updated feeds every 5 minutes on tides, weather, etc. Very cool stuff!
Great questions and feedback so far everyone, keep it coming!
Andrew, very good point. I'm very happy to report that our current development "Sprint" (a term to describe our current development activities) is focused on adding your spots, catches, and your buddies spots/catches as layers on the app. This should be out in weeks!!! Great suggestion again.
To follow up on Andrew's last question, a recent feature on our mobile apps is the ability to see your marked catches directly on the map on your mobile device. From your catch screen, click the icon, and a small map will pop open showing you the location of that catch on the map.
Don, great question. We get the TN ones from the Tennessee Valley Authority. I've researched the Army Corps of Engineers and USGS to see if we can integrate with their services. Is there a particular service you use now that you like?
You an me both Sammy!!! That's one of the best multi-species trophy lakes in the country. We are very happy to have Fishing Hot Spots as our mapping provider and we are working very closely with them to get at least the US side mapped. We will likely have it in by Spring of 2014. The Canadian side is a different story for a much longer chat :)
Henry, good question. Right now we don't have a way for groups to sign-up as a whole, but if you contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org we can work to automate the process as much as possible. Once you create a group in Fishidy, you can invite whoever you would like to sign-up
Andrew, another great suggestion. I have seen a few apps that have tried this. I saw one at ICAST that required you put a puck by the Fishidy and from that it would guess the length/weight. Great idea!!! Do you think people would want a species identification as well?
Alright everyone, we're coming close to the end of our chat session. Last call for questions before we close out.
Good stuff everyone!!! Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. And remember we take them 24/7, by emailing us at email@example.com. One of our team members will always get back to you!
That wraps up another live chat session here on Fishidy! Thanks for taking time out of your schedule tonight to provide us with some great input. We know that our users are our most valuable asset. We're doing our best to provide you guys with the most useful online resource for anglers possible.
Until next time, tight lines!
